The Planner app in Microsoft Teams continues to improve. A merger with To Do is imminent. The whole thing will run under a new logo and the new name Tasks.

In addition, operation on mobile devices will also be improved. The whole thing is due to start in May/June and will be rolled out in full to all Microsoft 365 users by mid-July.

What does that mean for me now?

The Planner and To Do applications will continue to exist as such and will continue to run as before. Only the application that can be integrated into Microsoft Teams will change.

The intermediate name is “Tasks by Planner and To Do”, which already gives a first impression of what is behind it. And the first impression is confirmed:

  • The Planner part of this will continue to be used to record and display the team and channel tasks. The existing Planner tabs will continue to function as before, only an additional list view will be added.
  • The other facet, To Do, ensures that personal tasks are listed. This also includes Outlook tasks.

So it really is a perfect fusion of the two programs. The difference to before is that I no longer have to switch back and forth between the individual programs, but have everything at a glance. This makes coordination much easier and minimizes the risk of something getting lost.
